Sometime last year (during the pandemic), I started transitioning back to my natural hair. As salons were closed, and my mum stranded in Nigeria, I was stuck with no one – to help me perm my hair.

So, one day I decided to go back to my Afro! But believe me, it wasn’t an easy task. Keep in mind that there’s no right or wrong way—the goal is always healthy hair. Instead of doing the big chop, I decided to gradually grow out the relaxer.

When it came down to it, I had to show patience, cut when necessary, deep condition often, plan out my protective styles (loved doing box braids or cornrows), cut back on heat stylings, focus on a healthy scalp, keep my hair moisturized and detangle carefully!

Although, I have just started to embark on such an interesting hair journey, I haven’t looked back and I don’t plan to!
